London, 31 March 2017 – ICSA: The Governance Institute, the professional body for governance, is pleased to announce that Lesley Ward has been appointed Chair of its Yorkshire branch. A chartered secretary with over 15 years’ company secretarial experience, Lesley is also an accredited coach and provides executive coaching to governance professionals.
‘I am delighted that Lesley has been elected to the role of chair of our Yorkshire branch,’ says Simon Osborne, Chief Executive of ICSA: The Governance Institute. ‘Lesley brings to the role a wealth of experience in the governance field, having worked for a company with close links to government, a registered charity and a private equity investor owned business. Lesley benefited from working with a coach during her career and now affords this opportunity to others, having trained as an accredited coach herself. She is also a volunteer ICSA mentor, helping governance professionals to reach their career goals and to thrive and excel in their roles.’
‘I am grateful to the previous branch chair Lara Ross for starting the Yorkshire branch last year and hope to build on what she started,’ says Lesley. ‘The role of the company secretary is a uniquely rewarding, but also challenging, role which is sometimes lonely and misunderstood. I want the Yorkshire branch to provide opportunities for members to have access to up-to-date technical information, to develop soft skills and to build supportive networks with other company secretaries and governance professionals in Yorkshire. With responsibility for good governance, company secretaries ensure organisations operate as efficiently as they can for as long as they can. As branch chair I look forward to reinforcing good governance in Yorkshire and helping to ensure the sustainability of organisations in the region.’
