London, 11 February 2019 – ICSA: The Governance Institute is holding a seminar on key areas of governance practice for company secretaries and governance professionals in Barbados. Taking place at the Hilton Barbados Resort, Needham’s Point, St Michael on Tuesday 19 February, the seminar will address crucial issues, such as technological innovation, directors’ duties and annual general meetings (AGMs).
Speaking in advance of the seminar, Connie Smith, Chair of ICSA’s Barbados branch said: “With governance practices being key factors in the success or failure of an organisation, governance professionals are uniquely positioned to steer governance, risk and compliance in order to ensure that high standards of governance are implemented across Barbados. This seminar will look at some of the main areas of challenges that today’s governance professionals need to meet in order to ensure that their organisations are fit for the future.”
Topics to be addressed include the following:
- Technological innovation: Simon Osborne, Chief Executive of ICSA, will provide a keynote address about technological innovation and the implications for good governance
- Directors and BEPS: Terry-Ann Mor, Senior Manager – Tax Services at Ernst & Young in Barbados will consider directors’ duties in a BEPS-compliant environment
- AGMs: John Heaton, President of ICSA’s UKRIAT division, will share how to ensure AGMs continue to be relevant throughout the 21st century
- The Barbados Stock Exchange Corporate Governance Code: Marlon Yarde, Managing Director Barbados Stock Exchange Inc. & Barbados Central Securities Depository Inc. will present the revised Corporate Governance Recommendations for Companies Listed on the BSE
- Next Generation Governance – Millennial Perspectives on the Future of Governance: Simon Osborne will be joined by Daria Annel, Associate with Lex Caribbean, Attorneys-at-Law; Krystle Howell, Internal Audit Manager and Board Secretary at the Institute of Internal Auditors; and Joanna Murphy, Senior Corporate Counsel at Hyuna International Ltd. for a panel discussion about the future of governance.
Members and non-members are welcome to attend the seminar, which will take place between 8.45am and 2.30pm. The cost for both members and non-members is 250 BBD$, which can be paid in advance or by cash or cheque on the day.
