The purpose of the strategic report is to enable shareholders to assess how the directors have performed their duty under section 172 of the Companies Act 2006 to promote the success of the company.
This award recognises those strategic reports which have best delivered on that objective to give a fair review of the company's business, together with a description of the principal risks it faces. Successful nominees here will typically present a strong, forward-looking, commentary which describes what the company does and why, and how it differs from its competitors. They may articulate clear links between the company’s strategy and objectives and the business model it adopts.
The judges are looking in particular for strategic reports which set out clearly and succinctly some of the main trends and opportunities, risks and uncertainties which impact upon the business, and which talk about value – how it’s generated, how it’s captured and nurtured, and how it’s sustained over the longer term.
