Giles Peel is a specialist in governance and risk, having worked in these areas for many years, across all sectors. He works as an adviser to Boards and Senior Management teams and acts as a mentor and trainer for both individuals as well as teams of directors.
In recent years, his work has focused on the financial services, insurance and health sectors, and more recently he completed seven years as the Head of the Governance Advisory Practice at DAC Beachcroft LLP, an international law firm.
His projects frequently deal with supporting organisations at risk of regulatory breach or reputational damage, and he brings to bear his own experience as a Chair and Non-Executive. He also enjoys advising on governance redesign as well as providing bespoke courses for boards, helping them to bring governance and leadership issues to life using challenging crisis scenarios.
Examples of his work include leading the independent review of the governance arrangements for the UK LINK Scheme, a number of board effectiveness reviews, including for Innovate Finance, the UK’s FinTech membership organization and many governance reviews and serious clinical incident reviews at major NHS Hospitals and private sector healthcare providers, as well a large banks and insurers.
Giles’s was previously Managing Director of Capita Company Secretarial Services, an executive director of a large NHS acute hospital, and his first career was in the Royal Navy where he reached the rank of Captain, serving in a variety of appointments at sea and in Whitehall.
He is a regular speaker and contributor on corporate governance thinking.
Giles is a Chartered Secretary and experienced NED. He also chairs the Board of the national mental health charity Combat Stress. He now runs his own advisory practice, DCO Partners Ltd.
