Martin Lee EMEA Lead

Cisco Talos

Martin is technical lead of security research, and EMEA Lead for Talos, Cisco’s threat intelligence and research organization. He seeks to improve the resilience of the Internet and awareness of current threats through researching system vulnerabilities and changes in the threat landscape.

He has published widely on cyber security issues, his first book entitled “Cyber Threat Intelligence” is to be published in 2023. He advises many organisations, including Europol as a member of their technical advisory board on cybercrime.

Martin started his career researching the genetics of human viruses, however discovering the nascent internet and realising that this was soon to be the most impactful invention of his lifetime, switched paths to follow a career in IT. In 2003 he took his first role in the cyber security industry writing spam filters, which in turn lead to an interest in malware and how criminals were abusing the possibilities provided by the Internet.

He has been with Cisco since 2013, initially part of the Threat Research, Analysis and Communications team before becoming one of the first members of Talos, Cisco’s Threat Intelligence and Security research group. Since 2021, he leads and represents Talos in EMEA.

With 19 years of experience within the security industry, he is CISSP certified, a Chartered Engineer, and holds degrees from the universities of Bristol, Cambridge, Paris-Sud and Oxford. He lives in Oxford with his wife, has two adult daughters, and when he isn’t in front of a computer is often to be found running through the countryside.
