Sue Lawrence

Sue is the founder of Independent Directors and Trustees, a collective of experienced directors and trustees that share their knowledge for personal and client benefit. Individuals also act in a statutory capacity on client company boards, both as non-executive directors and independent trustees across a wide variety of sectors.

Her early career was spent in financial services, followed by leadership positions in professional services outsource businesses, during which she trained as a Chartered Director with the Institute of Directors, underpinning her practical experience as a director with theoretical training.

Sue is also Chair of IoD Surrey, has held a variety of director appointments and is currently a statutory director on a number of boards, including UK subsidiaries of overseas companies and trust boards for employee-owned companies.

Sue is a published author with The Chartered Governance Institute of the Board Committees Handbook and the Company Meetings Handbook. She also edited the recently published Good Governance Guides to Strategy, Risk and Boardroom Dynamics. Following on from this she worked with the Institute to refresh and update the Competency Framework.
