Improving your board's diversity to maximise performance

Evidence is growing that now is the time for boards to challenge legacy thinking, and place diversity front and centre as a strategic business priority to accelerate change.
The Parker Review demonstrated that ethnic minorities are under-represented on FTSE 100 boards, even as global anti-racist protests push companies to self-reflect at a quicker pace. Calls for greater gender diversity, too, have gained momentum.
In this session, we ask; should governance professionals be looking at the broader diversity perspective - and not just with respect to gender and ethnic minorities, but also social class, disability and other aspects of diversity? How can boards bring more focus to their board diversity? How can they achieve a good fit while still being diverse? Are organisations with a more welcoming DNA better able to recruit and embrace diversity? Why are some boards split on the issue of adopting diversity targets? And how can they reconcile these with the need to get the 'best person for the job'?
In this session, Peter Swabey, Policy & Research Director at The Chartered Governance Institute, hosts an expert panel to share their views of diversity and equality. They include Dr Scarlett E Brown, Co-Founder, Dynamic Boards, Justine Lutterodt FRSA, Director of the Centre for Synchronous Leadership, Anthony Corriette, Company Secretary, BBC Studios Limited, Patrick Dunne, Author of 'Boards' and others TBC.
