Investor expectations in the coming AGM season

Andrew is responsible for representing The Investment Association members' interests as institutional investors on corporate governance and engagement matters. He has oversight of The Investment Association's Institutional Voting Information Service (IVIS), corporate governance policy development and company consultations or collective engagement with the companies in which Investment Association members invest. Andrew joined The Investment Association in June 2014, through merger of the Investment Affairs division of the ABI with the IMA. He joined the ABI in 2005 as a Corporate Governance Analyst and was promoted to Head of IVIS in October 2011 and Head of Corporate Governance in January 2012.  Before joining the ABI, Andrew was a Socially Responsible Investment analyst at HSBC, having joined HSBC's graduate scheme in 2001 after reading Economics at the University of Bath.

Angeli is a Corporate Governance Manager responsible for voting and engagement on ESG issues Globally. Angeli represents LGIM at the Investment Association Remuneration Committee and leads our global approach to remuneration engagement and voting. She joined LGIM in 2005 and has over 20 years of corporate governance experience. Angeli holds a BSc (Hons) degree in financial economics, Post Grad Diploma in Law, Legal Practice Certificate (LPC), Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and graduate of ICSA – the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

David Shammai is a Corporate Governance Director, Cross-Border, focusing on the firm’s growing corporate governance activities across Europe/UK, the US and Australia.

Prior to joining Morrow Sodali in February 2018, Mr. Shammai was with APG Asset Management, one of the world’s largest fiduciary fund managers, were he served as a senior corporate governance specialist involved in voting, formulation of policy and company engagement with its portfolio of listed companies. Previously, David held senior consulting and corporate positions at KPMG and the Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc.

Mr. Shammai is currently a member of the Standing Advisory Group of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. He is a former member of the Corporate Governance Advisory Board of the Cii and is frequent speaker at corporate governance events with a particular interest in the incorporation of sustainability and governance factors in the investment process.

David’s academic background is in law and accountancy from Tel Aviv University and the London School of Economics.

Peter Swabey is Policy and Research Director at The Chartered Governance Institute. He is responsible for developing the Institutes profile to members, regulators, policymakers, employers and other stakeholders by delivering thought leadership and lobbying campaigns aligned to the Institute's strategy and promoting strong governance as the vital ingredient for success in organisations.

Peter joined the Institute in 2013 and has almost 30 years’ industry experience. Prior to this, Peter was at Equiniti where he was Company Secretary and Industry Leadership Director; he was also a Director of Equiniti David Venus, Equiniti’s Company Secretarial Services provider.

Peter is a member of The Chartered Governance Institute Company Secretary’s Forum, the CBI Companies Committee, the QCA Corporate Governance Expert Group and the Shareholder Voting Working Group, as well as being an Alternate Member of the Takeover Panel and a past Chairman of The Chartered Governance Institute Registrars Group. A history graduate, and Fellow of the Institute, Peter is a regular speaker at industry conferences and events, with an industry-wide reputation as an expert on shareholder and corporate governance matters.

Sarah Thomas joined Dixons Carphone plc as Deputy Company Secretary in March 2019. She is Secretary to the two main operating company boards in the Group and is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the company secretariat team, providing support to the Board, its committees, the subsidiaries and shareholders. Sarah began her company secretarial career in 2003 and is a Fellow of The Chartered Governance Institute. 

She has worked in the company secretariat teams at Standard Chartered, Experian, Burberry, Friends Life and Aviva Investors. Roles held have included responsibility for board and committee governance, statutory and listing rules compliance, shareholder services, subsidiary governance, JV support and international team management. Sarah enjoys all areas of listed plc company secretarial work but has a particular interest in implementing technology solutions that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of company secretarial processes and reporting.
