The Education Select Committee has launched an inquiry into the performance, accountability, and governance of multi-academy trusts (MATs).
As the direction of travel for academies is to move towards increasingly larger MATs, there is a growing need to ensure that governance arrangements are appropriate for the schools to continue to deliver performance while being accountable to pupils, parents and other stakeholders.
As governance professionals, members will be all too familiar with the governance challenges facing MATs. The policy team are keen to provide evidence to the inquiry to highlight the concerns regarding the governance arrangements within MATs. If you are involved in the governance of academy trusts, and specifically MATs, and would like to contribute to ICSA’s submission please contact Louise (lthomson@icsa.org.uk) before 18 April. Details of the inquiry can be found here.
