The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland (CGIUKI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ruairí Cosgrove FCG as its new President, effective 1 August 2025, following the conclusion of Charles Brown FCG’s term on 31 July 2025. The Institute also welcomes Kerry Round FCG as a new Board member.

Ruairí brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the role, having served as Vice President for the past four years. He is a former President of the CGIUKI’s Irish Region, a current Council member, and Chair of the Education and Learning Committee. Professionally, Ruairí is Director of PwC Dublin’s Entity Governance and Compliance Department, where he advises companies across sectors on governance and delivers director training. He is also a regular speaker at conferences and lectures on governance and company secretarial practice.

“I am delighted and honoured to be appointed as President of The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland,” said Ruairí Cosgrove. “It is a privilege to chair an organisation that champions excellence in governance and integrity. I look forward to contributing to its mission, engaging with fellow professionals in all of our regions and promoting our high-quality qualifications.”

Ruairí has been elected for an initial one-year term, with the possibility of serving a second year in accordance with the Institute’s constitution. This appointment follows a structured succession process overseen by the Board, ensuring continuity and strong leadership for CGIUKI’s future.

As part of this transition, Victoria Penrice FCG will retire from her position as Past President on 31 July 2025, with Charles Brown FCG stepping into that role. This change created a vacancy on the Board, which has now been filled through a member election process initiated in April.

Following nominations from seven candidates, Kerry Round FCG has been elected as the new Board member and will begin her term on 1 August 2025.

Kerry is a Public Practitioner, Chartered Secretary, and Fellow of The Chartered Governance Institute, and serves as Founding Director of Round Governance Services Limited. She has also been an Associate Lecturer on the University of Lincoln’s MSC Governance programme.

“I’m overwhelmed at receiving the members' vote as director of the Board of the UKI CGI,” said Kerry Round. “My application spoke of being part of a Board that continues to work with a diverse population of members, that continues to evolve its practices, its offerings and one that stays alert to how the world, its organisations and their governance structures move forward. A Board is only as strong as its members and I look forward to working with my fellow Board members and contributing to the ongoing work of the Institute. It’s a role I take seriously, and I’m proud to take my place at the table and be a small part of the Institute’s future.”

These appointments mark a new chapter for CGIUKI, reinforcing its commitment to strong governance, professional development, and member engagement across the UK, Ireland and Associated Territories.
