More and more organisations are recognising their data as a critical business asset .Yet are the risks, both economic and reputational, of not adequately governing data being properly considered in the boardroom? Is data really understood as being an issue for the Board? And if so, how can the company secretary influence the board’s thinking and push data up on the agenda?
According to a Gartner report published earlier this year, it’s expected that by 2022 as many as 90% of corporate strategies will recognise their data as a critical business asset, making Governance in the digital age a necessary event for all governance professionals.

How can governance professionals benefit from embracing data? This panel session looks at real-life examples of how to use data to generate persuasive business presentations. We will look into the benefits of data-driven decision making and how to generate economic value from corporate data. Panel discussion - User rights and decision-making in the boardroom As organisations come fully to understand the economic value of the data they hold, so can we expect to see them explore ways of maximising the economic benefit. But how does that work in a post-GDPR world, when users have the right to be compensated by companies who are generating profit as a direct result of their data? We discuss what rights data subjects have with the monetisation of their personal data and what you need to be aware of as a governance professional. Speakers: |

Workshop: Data ethics & bias in the boardroom As boards become increasingly familiar with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and what it can do for their business data, so too do they need to develop a better understanding of where that data comes from, and the very human biases that can be “hardwired” in. In this interactive session, we explore how boards can ensure the data they receive is free from bias, how they can be certain on the ethical value of the information they rely on – and the impact it is having on decision-making. So if reputational damage is just one click away, how can you monitor – and manage – what’s said about you online? Speakers: |
