Good minuting is a deceptively difficult and time consuming task and is often described as an art. There is no one-size fits all solution. Minutes are as individual as the board to which they relate though decisions about format, style and content often need to be informed by knowledge of the law, and of regulatory and market practice.
The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland has a range of authoritative resources designed to develop minute taking skills and effectiveness, including free principles-based guidance, a popular one-day training course, in-house skills development workshops and an accessible and practical handbook.
This one-day course provides practical guidance on how to overcome the problems faced by minute takers and to achieve accuracy in the minute-taking process. Attendees will have the opportunity to develop a toolkit of personal skills which will boost their confidence in writing accurate minutes.
The course runs once each month across the year and takes place in Central London. Course attendees can take advantage of a six month complimentary professional subscription with access to our resources and helpline, as well as a subscription to G+C Magazine. To find out more information including dates and pricing, please visit the course page.
This minute taking guidance was developed through a series of discussions with experienced minute takers from both corporate and not-for-profit sectors. It provides up to date expert advice about all aspects of the process from preparing the agenda to the storage of the finished documents, and has a wealth of handy tips about how to avoid some of the pitfalls that can face those taking minutes of meetings.
