Welcome to The Chartered Governance Institute, Scotland Branch. We provide support to the Institute's members and students in Scotland.

About Us

The Scotland Branch is a networking group for the business community in Scotland. It is run by Chartered Secretaries, the Insitute's students and other qualified individuals with strong links to the business community.

Our primary aim is to promote continuing professional development by hosting talks and seminars, organising site visits, directing students and the business community via email to other related events in their area and providing support for the Institute's students. By engaging in these activities we are able to:

  • Encourage the Institute's students
  • Raise the profile of the company secretary
  • Promote good relationships with other professional groups
  • Provide a regular forum for discussion and debate
  • Encourage good business and working practices
  • Promote strategic commercial awareness

Clare McFadyen FCG

Clare is a Fellow of the Institute with almost twenty years' experience in providing company secretarial support in a variety of professional and commercial organisations across various different sectors, having been qualified since 2009. Clare is focussed on providing efficient and effective delivery to her clients, and has considerable experience of providing advice and practical support to boards and committees in respect of the management of their meeting processes, as well as ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and providing corporate governance advice and of maintaining ongoing annual reporting for those boards. Clare has strong interpersonal skills and excels at building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, colleagues and stakeholders.

Richmond Davies

Richmond Davies is the secretary of the Scottish branch of the Chartered Governance Institute. He graduated as a chartered secretary in 2001 via the MSc collaborative course. Since then he has held various governance roles within the National Health Service in Scotland, and is currently the head of statistical and information governance at Public Health Scotland in Edinburgh. His role also includes the responsibility for ensuring Public Health Scotland complies with a portfolio of legislation, codes of practice and guidance in relation to statistics and information governance.

Nia Harkins ACG

Nia is an Associate member of CGI and qualified as a chartered secretary in 2020 via the Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme. Nia has over seven years of experience providing in-house and client focused company secretarial support and advice on corporate governance matters to a wide range of small, medium and large Companies.
