The Burness Paull Governance & Company Secretarial team were delighted to be hosting this year’s Chartered Governance Institute Scottish Conference on Wednesday 8 November 2023.

The full day conference was free of charge and comprised insightful talks covering a range of topics affecting governance professionals and company secretaries and the boards they work with.

Our theme for the 2023 Scottish Conference was Go-Co-Sec 360, which is designed to look from different angles at the central and crucial role of governance professionals and company secretaries.

Our keynote speaker was Marcia Campbell, independent NED at Willis Limited, Canada Life Limited, Canada Life Asset Management and Canada Life Group, Charles Stanley Limited, CNP Assurances and also a member of Aviva’s Independent Governance Committee. Marcia reflected on the continuum of approaches to running a successful Company Secretariat, across the spectrum from administrative to fully engaged, and how to get the basics right for the board before building upon those foundations and delivering true value.
