Join the SW branch as we hear from four governance professionals and the myriad routes on their journeys to become Chartered Company Secretaries.

Hosted by branch Co-Chair Ann Blundell FCG, this panel event will comprise of an introduction to the panel, a 40 minute discussion and an opportunity for attendees to ask questions at the end of the session.

Speakers

Thelma Freeman – Deputy Secretary, Nationwide Building Society

Thelma Freeman is a Deputy Secretary at Nationwide Building Society.  Thelma is a qualified solicitor and chartered secretary.  Thelma originally trained and worked in private practice specialising in litigation.  After moving in house, she has performed a series of roles culminating in a role within secretariat.  Over the last 5 years Thelma has worked in secretariat at a senior level, during which time she has undertaken fast track qualification with the CGI.

 

Prasanjit Kumar – Senior Associate – Global Entitly Governance, Vistra

Prasanjit Kumar is a qualified Company Secretary from India with over 10 years’ experience working with listed and private entities. He restarted his career in the UK after pursuing a Masters degree in the UK and is looking to grow career in the UK and International Corporate Governance scenario.

 

Jayne Meacham – Company Secretary, Auction Technology Group plc

Jayne Meecham is Company Secretary of FTSE 250 listed Auction Technology Group plc, which successfully IPOd in 2021.  A Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute, Jayne has first-hand experience of the transferability of the CoSec role, having worked for a number of very different companies over three decades, both in-house and in professional services.  These include corporate service providers Link Company Matters and Vistra, and in-house at St. James’s Place plc, Lloyds Banking Group, Zurich and Segro, demonstrating her broad company secretarial and corporate governance experience spanning many sectors.

 

Victoria Orme - Deputy Company Secretary, Hargreaves Lansdown

Victoria Orme is currently Deputy Company Secretary at Hargreaves Lansdown plc with over 10 years’ experience of company secretary and governance roles at a senior level. Victoria started her career in the civil service but has also worked in the charity sector and financial services.

Helen Baker shared her career story on how she made the move from an in-house secretariat to setting up her own professional services firm and provide insight into the services a professional services firm offers.

Helen Baker, Director, HN06

Helen is an experienced Chartered Governance Professional with a background in the secretariats of large listed international groups. Before setting up her own consultancy, HN06, she worked for main market and AIM listed companies including ITM Power, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Legal & General, WS Atkins and National Grid.

Helen has been involved in many aspects of company secretarial work throughout her career. She has a particular interest in process (re-)engineering and the use of technology to support and enable today’s governance professional.

Claire Chapman, General Counsel/Company Secretary, Hargreaves Lansdown

Claire oversees the Legal, Company Secretariat and Corporate Governance functions at Hargreaves Lansdown. She provides expert and strategic legal advice across the range of HL’s businesses and activities, with a focus on legal and regulatory risk management, mergers and acquisitions, technology, data and IP, corporate projects, governance and contracts.

Claire has held General Counsel and also Company Secretary roles at a range of companies including most recently at Capita plc and prior to that at Daily Mail & General Trust plc, Inchcape plc and Thomson Reuters. Claire qualified as a lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Claire has a Masters in International Law and is a qualified Solicitor, England and Wales and additionally Attorney, New York.
