West Midlands

This event took place on Thursday 21 September 2023 at The Birmingham & Midland Institute.

The West Midlands branch’s flagship event, the committee invited members to come together for rapid-fire CPD sessions on topics of current interest to governance professionals.

Starting with a ‘get-to-know-you’ lunch, discussion sessions will consider career development and opportunities in the West Midlands; the impact of Karl George’s RACE Equality Code in the NHS; the government’s new corporate transparency rules and the impact for business; and what makes a “good” board paper (and therefore how to write one). We will also receive an employment law update from Harpreet Kaur (HCR) and conclude with our keynote speaker – to be announced.

Kindly sponsored by Ladwa Recruitment, company secretarial recruitment specialists.

In early 2022, Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, described “the decarbonizing of the global economy” as creating “the greatest investment opportunity of our lifetime.” As preparation for reporting against the recommended disclosures of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures ramps up, investors will be looking to see what companies in every sector are doing to transition.

At the same time, public awareness of ESG matters is at an all-time high, with concerns extending beyond climate and sustainability issues to the “S” and the “G” for all organisations in every sector.

Come and hear our panel of experts discuss the developments in ESG over 2022 and what is on the horizon.
