Summary of student rules for validated postgraduate courses

The pathway to membership for Masters’ students

When you join a CGIUKI-accredited university programme, validated as a dual award with us, you should also register as a CGIUKI student and take the first step to becoming a full member.

On successful completion of the university programme, you will become a Graduate member of the Institute. Once you have gained enough relevant work experience, you can apply to for chartership and become an Associate member.

Your agreement with the university does not automatically make you a student of the Institute, so you do need to complete a ‘University student registration form’ and making a registration payment.

Payment process

The student and membership fee is payable in two instalments, at the beginning and end of your university studies.

Register with us as a student in your first term / semester and pay the first instalment of £80. This first payment registers you as a student as long as you continue your studies on this programme.

When you successfully complete the programme, you can register as a Graduate member of the Institute and pay the second instalment of £290. This will cover your first year of subscription fees as a CGIUKI Graduate member.

Professional ethics and conduct

As a CGIUKI student, you are a potential future Chartered governance professional and we expect that your professional ethics and conduct will be equal to that of a full member while you are studying. As such, when you agree to the student rules and regulations, you agree to abide by the code of professional ethics and conduct.
