Welcome to The Chartered Governance Institute, West Midlands branch. We provide support to the Institute's members and students in the West Midlands and Central Wales.

The Competency Framework for Governance Professionals comprises 12 competencies divided into three areas within the framework; Values, Practice and Knowledge.

Climate change is negatively impacting and threatening human rights, physical and mental health, cultural and educational rights and it could impact our future. With that in mind, the United Nations highlighted the urgent need to respect human rights in climate-related actions.

Our research examines the perspectives of millennial and generation Z company secretaries, in contrast to more established practitioners.

The practical guidance remains pretty much unchanged; the main updates are to chapter 2, to cover the latest developments in environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting, and the future of digital.

The three dimensions of sustainable development, the economy, society, and the environment, are indivisible and integrated, and are critical to the future of society and our planet.

FTSE350 boards are displaying more confidence in the economy, with the results of a survey published today by The Chartered Governance Institute showing a twofold increase in the number of respondents believing that the global economic outlook will improve in the coming year and a fivefold increase in the number believing that the UK economy will improve. This is not yet enough to encourage greater capital investment, however, despite fears lessening over Brexit, with fewer companies now rating an exit as damaging and the overwhelming majority (81%) not currently considering relocating their head office or listing.
