The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members of the board, Melissa Banks FCG, Joyce Boateng FCG, and April Skipp FCG (effective 1 July 2026), following the conclusion of a board election process conducted throughout May and June.
Melissa Banks FCG is a Senior Assistant Company Secretary at British Land, where she leads the team responsible for both listed and subsidiary governance matters. Melissa is passionate about the future of the governance profession and champions the role of technology and emerging talent in shaping it.
“I’m looking forward to taking on this role at a time when it is more important than ever that the profession continues to evolve. Governance is often misunderstood by others but it is so fundamental to core decision making in companies. It is a role that, if done right, is all about people and relationships. If we can then use modern technology to support routine tasks, we should be embracing it and understanding how to manage the risks involved. I’m keen to bring this perspective to the board and hopefully inspire the younger generations getting into this career.”
Joyce Boateng FCG is the Regulatory Compliance and Governance Manager at GCB Bank PLC (Ghana), offering extensive experience across governance, regulation and digital risk oversight.
"I am honored to join the CGIUKI Board and grateful for the opportunity to serve our noble Institute. With over two decades of experience in corporate governance, regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement, I am passionate about advancing strong governance in an increasingly digital and complex environment. I look forward to working with my fellow Board members to support the Institute's strategic priorities, strengthen the profession and create lasting value for members and the wider community."
April Skipp FCG has over a decade of experience in governance, regulation and technology, with a particular focus on AI‑enabled governance and transformation.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the board at such a pivotal moment for the profession. My career has focused on translating complex regulatory change into practical, technology-enabled governance, so I’ve seen first-hand both the opportunities and the challenges that technology - and particularly AI - presents. I’m passionate about helping ensure governance professionals and students feel confident engaging with and shaping the direction of their AI and digital transformation. It’s vital that the Institute plays a leading role in shaping and defining that future.”
Two board members were also re-elected and will serve a second term, Bernadette Young and Justine Lutterodt.
