Membership

Retired membership

Stay part of CGIUKI and continue sharing your knowledge, influence and enthusiasm for the governance profession.

Retiring from work? You don’t have to leave us. If you’re at least 66 and no longer working full- or part-time in a paid or voluntary professional role, you’re eligible for retired membership at a reduced rate.

Retired membership recognises that even if you’re not working anymore, you want to demonstrate your commitment to the governance profession. It’s a way of formally acknowledging — and thanking you for — your many years of learning, practice and adherence to the highest ethical and professional standards.

Retired membership fees

We review the fees for each level of membership every year and publish them on our main Membership Fees page.

How to become a retired member

Apply online. We’ll review your request to move onto the retired rate concession and be in touch to confirm it. Your new rate will come into effect at your next renewal.

Requirements and exemptions

Retired members must continue to abide by CGIUKI Byelaws and Code of Professional Ethics and Conduct. You are not required to complete any mandatory CPD hours.

Voluntary work

Lots of our members want to give something back during their retirement. If you’re working pro bono supporting a local charity, community cause or an organisation, you're able to do so with retired membership.

If you’ll be doing a voluntary role acting in a professional governance capacity, such as a non-executive or trustee position, you’ll need to maintain your non-retired membership. If you’re a chartered member, that includes undertaking 20 hours of CPD each year. A reduced membership rate is available if you’re 66 or older.

Not sure whether you’re retired membership is right for you? Get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
