Governance in Charity and NFP sector

Resources, guidance and training to help your charity or not-for-profit practice good governance that goes beyond compliance.

Good governance is about making sure your charity or not-for-profit is well-run. By building a firm foundation for strong governance, you’ll help your organisation achieve its charitable purposes as effectively as possible, deliver lasting positive social impact and make a real difference for good.

Our resources, guidance and training are here to help professionals like charity secretaries, clerks to trustee boards, and senior charity managers develop good governance practice that goes beyond compliance.

Charity trustees and officers, as well as professional advisers like solicitors, chartered secretaries, accountants, auditors and independent examiners, should also find it useful.

Charity Governance Code

The Charity Governance Code was established in 2005 by a sector-led steering group, including CGI UK & Ireland. Although the code is not a legal or regulatory requirement, it’s a practical tool to help charities, not-for-profits and their trustees develop high standards of governance.
